Application Environment

Dust generation and surface erosion are commonly experienced in any large open environment where industrial and vehicular activity takes place. Typically, environments such as quarries, opencast mines and land reclamation, construction, forestry and landfill sites suffer from haul road erosion and dust generation. Changes in climatic conditions often add to these problems.

Failure to limit the affects of unstable and dusty surface areas can lead to operational inefficiencies that generate serious financial implications. Increased vehicle and machinery maintenance costs arising from frequent breakdown may result in lower profit margins, whilst dust emission to local communities and contamination of public roadways is likely to result in authority investigation and prosecution. Operations may even cease if equipment becomes inoperable or closure notices are enforced,

Product Aim

Dst1 tackles large-scale heavy-duty surface erosion and dust control problems 365 days a year. By preventing surface erosion, the build-up of material on vehicles and dust emissions to neighbouring communities, Dst1 protects operators' financial and operational interests.

How It Works

Dst1 is an environmentally safe polymer emulsion that produces highly effective dust control, erosion control and soil stabilisation by bonding particles together to form larger lumps. It saturates the soil, coating each particle with an 'oligomer'. The oligomers then bond many times to create a solid mass. Application involves scarifying the sub-soil depth pre-determined by the soil consistency. A highly durable surface is created which will endure the stresses of climatic extremes and heavy vehicle traffic. An additional aggregate may be added, particularly if the soil contains clay, to improve water drainage.

Dst1 is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-flammable and does not pollute groundwater. Its insoluble composition increases the load-bearing strength of all soil types, even in extreme weather conditions, and creates a stabilised surface which resists shifting, breaking up or sink failures. Dst1 is clear (although pigmentation can be added) and so retains the aesthetics of the surrounding landscape.
